"Health care matters to all of us some of the time, public health matters to all of us all of the time.”

C. Everett Koop

Public Health is a new and exciting field that gives you the opportunity to change the world around you. Public Health means saving lives – not only your life, but the lives of your family and friends, the lives of people in your country, the lives of people around the world.

How can we change the world around us?

-reducing health disparities – a large part of public health means fighting for health care equity, quality, and accessibility

-improving the health of your community – public health means education, promoting healthy behavior and lifestyle

-protecting your community – public health means preventive measure against health threats, research for disease and injury prevention

-focusing on entire populations, rather than persons – public health means protecting the lives of an entire population that can be as small as the neighborhood that you live in or as big as an entire country
